Waterford City Council have published a list of routes in and around the city which they endeavour to keep clear during the current cold spell.  The link below provides details of routes already gritted.  Any other areas will be gritted after the outlined priority areas are clear, if resources are available.

The cold spell has resulted in number of people experiencing the loss of water supply. Please note that Waterford City Council has NOT turned off any water supply in the city. The supply network has not been affected by the freezing weather conditions and supply continues as normal. If you do not have water at your taps, usually it is a frozen service pipe or frozen pipes in the attic. Householders, landlords and owners of commercial properties are requested to check their property for frozen and leaking pipes.

If your pipes do become frozen advice can be sought from Waterford City Council Environmental Services Department on 051-849562 (during office hours).  Outside normal office hours the Emergency Number is 051-875555.

Waterford City Council are proposing to temporarily close the Old Tramore Road to faciliate the progress of works.  In accordance with Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993, it is proposed to temporarily close the Old Tramore Road from 9.30am on Tuesday 4^th January 2011 until 7.00pm Thursday 5^th May 2011 inclusive, to facilitate the Road Improvement Scheme.

Proposed Diversion – L1020 Old Tramore Road from the Couse Bridge Roundabout to the entrance to Greenfields Estate.

Alternative Routes:

Northbound

Couse Bridge Roundabout – R 710 Outer Ring Road – Ballindud Roundabout – R675 Tramore Road –Tramore Road Roundabout– R709 Inner Ring Road– L1020 Old Tramore Road.

Southbound

L1020 Old Tramore Road – R709 Inner Ring Road – Tramore Road Roundabout – R675 Tramore Road– Ballindud Roundabout –R710 Outer Ring Road – Couse Bridge Roundabout.

Access for residents will be maintained.

Any person who may have concerns may lodge an objection to this temporary road closure by contacting Waterford City Council no later than Tuesday 30^th November 2010.

A Waterford residents association has been recognised with a prestigious award for its impressive work to enhance their local area.  The Greenfields Residents Association at Frisby Homes’ Greenfields development achieved a merit award in The Pride of Place Environmental Competition 2010, run by Waterford City Council.

The awards aim to reward individuals, communities, schools and businesses who show commitment and contribution to improve their local environment.  At a ceremony held in City Hall on 2 November, judges were particularly impressed by the absence of litter, the addition of hanging baskets, and the overall appearance of the Greenfields estate – located on the Old Tramore Road.  Judges also praised the communication methods employed by the association, in particular the use of their website and regular newsletters, to keep residents involved in projects.

John Power, Chairperson of the association, said: “It’s a tremendous achievement and pat on the back for all involved and a great motivator to continue such good work. This award is particularly significant considering our estate is still under construction.”  The association fought off stiff competition from 15 entrants to receive the accolade, in the ‘best small residential area’ category.  Ella Ryan, Environmental Awareness Officer at Waterford City Council, said: “The marks in this category were genuinely very close when it came down to the top places. Greenfields did very well this year in both rounds of judging.”

Noel Frisby, Managing Director of Frisby Homes, said: “We’re absolutely delighted for the residents association. To be recognised in this way shows they put in a lot of effort to make this housing development an even more enjoyable place to live.”  Local Labour Councillor for Waterford City South Seamus Ryan was also impressed with the award. He said: “I congratulate the residents association for all their hard work and commitment – it has been rewarded by this accolade.”

Many thanks to Waterford City Council who provided an enforcement team to collect bonfire material from the estate and to Noel Frisby Construction for providing additional private security for the estate for the full duration of the Halloween weekend.  Sincere thanks to Cllr. Seamus Ryan for lobbying our concerns at Council level and for personally visiting the estate over the weekend.  Many thanks to the Waterford Gardai for frequenting Greenfields over the weekend and for maintaining a visible presence in an effort to discourage anti-social behaviour.

And finally, many thanks to all residents of Greenfields.  Your vigilance and efforts over the Halloween period show a strong sense of community whichwe all should be proud of.

The Tramore Road (R675) will be temporarily closed from 9.30a.m. on Monday 1^st November 2010 until 5.00pm on Sunday 7^th November 2010 to facilitate works.  The Tramore Road will be closed from the entrance to the Kingfisher Leisure Centre to the Ballindud Roundabout on the Outer Ring Road.
