Neighbourhood Watch Alert!

Over the last number of weeks there has been a large group of teenagers loitering in and around the Greenfields area. This group have been causing a lot of noise, disruption and partaking in anti-social behaviour i.e. throwing ‘bangers’ into residents gardens / at houses, breaking in side gates etc.

In particular, this group of teenagers seem to gathering near the small green area at the junction of Beech Drive/Beech Park (on the small wall). The majority of the this group do not live in Greenfields nor do they realise they are on CCTV in this area.

With the Halloween period approaching, all residents are encouraged to please report such behaviour and this group to the Gardai should you notice them. Waterford Garda Station can be contacted 24 hours on 051 305339 or on 051 305300 and will attend to the estate in a patrol car to move on this group and to take any necessary action in relation to anti-social behaviour/vandalism.

Neighbourhood Watch Alert!

In recent days there have been a number of burglaries in the estates around Greenfields.  An Garda Siochana are aware of these incidents and have reports of a black/silver Audi with tinted windows watching peoples movements and identifying vacant homes to be targeted.

Residents are encouraged to be extra vigilant and report any suspicious activity to both Brian Power (Greenfields Neighbourhood Watch Area Coordinator – 087 9762955) and An Garda Siochana (Waterford City – 051 305339/305300).

Wheelie Bins

Residents are reminded to securely store their wheelie bins.  A number of incidents of stolen/damaged wheelie bins in Greenfields have been reported to the Residents Association.  Wheelie bins have been taken from outside properties and dumped in the green area at the end of the estate and near the bog/Avondale area.

It is important that bins be secured.  If rubbish from your wheelie bin is found in any public area you could face a fine/prosecution from Waterford City Council under the Litter Pollution Act 1997.  The on-the-spot fine for a litter offence is €150 with a possible maximum fine in court of €3,000.  Please report any missing wheelie bins to the Residents Association and any incidents of rubbish to the Litter Warden of Waterford City Council on 051849563.

Similarly if you change your home or work location then you use our interactive web map to accurately map your new location.  This is a free service which is provided by Waterford City Council and MapAlerter.com. This means that there are no registration costs and there are no charges to receive SMS or Emails. Please note that the information that you provide will only be used in connection to supplying you with your chosen alerts.

Disposal of Christmas Trees

Many of us will have a Christmas tree glittering in our window this festive season but what do we do with it once the celebrations are over?  A real Christmas tree is a living resource which can be composted, whereas a plastic tree consists of metal and plastic materials, which cannot be broken down naturally. Waterford City Council would like to remind householders to recycle the thousands of Christmas trees across the city when it comes to the New Year.

Christmas trees can be brought free of charge to the Kilbarry Civic Amenity Site in Waterford City (11am-4pm Monday to Friday and 10am-2pm Saturdays) for recycling. Remember to remove all decorations, lights and stands from you tree before bringing it to the Kilbarry Civic Amenity Site as they can not be composted and damage the shredding equipment. The trees are shredded.  Or you can contact your bin collector to check if you can cut your tree into smaller pieces and dispose of it in your brown bin.

Trees should not be left at the gates of this facility outside of these designated times.

There will be no designated collection points for Christmas trees in the city. Anyone leaving a Christmas tree in a public place can be issued with a €150 litter fine. Any larger cardboard boxes that you can’t fit into your green bin can be brought to Kilbarry Civic Amenity Site free of charge, along with glass, aluminium cans,  clothes, cooking oil, engine oil, batteries, fluorescent lights and waste electronic and electrical equipment. Paint tins and aerosols can be disposed of here for the cost of a €2.50 bin tag for every 5 tins/aerosols.

For more information please contact Environmental Services, Waterford City Council on 051 849938.
